$14 Million and Counting. How Austin’s Musicians Changed History.
In March 2026, the City of Austin made history — again. A small group of working musicians spent seven years showing up at City Hall, surviving a pandemic, fighting bureaucratic delays, and refusing to let Austin's live music economy be taken for granted. The result: $14 million distributed directly to musicians and venues through the Austin Live Music Fund, the first program of its kind anywhere in the United States. This is that story.
